Description

This Area shall provide functionality that enables data to be collected from the Vehicle and inputs provided for possible use by its management functionality.  Functionality shall also be included in this Area to enable the output within the Vehicle of traffic and travel information provided by the Manage Traffic Area, plus warning messages to Drivers produced from a variety of sources, the exchange of data with other nearby Vehicles and the detection of objects in the vicinity of the Vehicle.  This Functional Area shall provide Drivers with functionality that shall enable trip planning to be done from within the Vehicle.  Data that has been collected from the Vehicle about its operation is distributed to functionality in other Functional Areas.  Interfaces shall be provided to the Provide Safety and Emergency Facilities Area to provide a speedy response to e-Calls that have been received from Vehicles.  Vehicle identities shall be provided by the functionality when requested by other Areas for payment collection and the identification of fraud.

Component Functions

The functionality in this Area has been partitioned into High-level Function so as to enable different facilities to be included, or excluded, according to the requirements of a given implementation.

Thie High-level Functions provide functionality to support the operation of some of the advanced systems that may be contained within a vehicle, in particular when these systems need data from, or to send data to, other vehicles and/or the road infrastructure. The services supported are limited to those designed to support the driver in maintaining control of the vehicle, and in keeping within the current traffic regulations, with a particular set of functions allocated to support Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA).

The High-level Functions also provide functionality to enable the vehicle to communicate with organisations when its identification is required, or it is being used illegally. Thet also include the functionality needed within a vehicle to support a Mayday service. Functions shall also monitor the status of the driver, provide a warning in case of impairment, and, together with the current status of the vehicle, record this data for future interrogation by authorised personnel. Functionality shall also enable floating car data to be provided to those that wish to us it, e.g. the Manage Traffic Area.
