This Browsing
Tool provides access to a HTML representation of part of the European
ITS Framework (FRAME) Architecture. It enables the functionality in the Functional
Viewpoint and the allocation of User
Needs to functionality to be viewed interactively using Microsoft Internet
Explorer. Further information about the Functional Viewpoint and the User
Needs can be found in materials that can be read or downloaded from the E-FRAME
Deliverables part of the FRAME Web Site.
This new Version 4.1 contains updated User
Needs and improvements to the functionality that provides support for the
Cooperative Systems services. In
addition some minor changes have been made to other parts of the
functionality with the aim of improving the ease of use of the FRAME Architecture
over the previous version (4).
Details of the changes are provided in Part 4 of the D15 document
which is also available for downloading from the E-FRAME Deliverables part
of the FRAME website.
If you are
a first time or infrequent User of this Tool and/or of the Framework
Architecture itself, it is recommended that you also read the last sections of this Home Page and the 'General Definition' page. Others
Users should directly access the Browsing Tool pages through the links in
the Main Indexes list below (or in the navigation window on the left).

Notes for First Time or Infrequent Users
The HTML
version of the Functional Viewpoint provided by this Browsing Tool can be
accessed through a series of Index Pages. The Main
or “top-level” Index Pages are listed above as a series of links, and these
are also available using the “Query” option at the top of the page. They
provide access to the descriptions and definitions of all the Functions,
Data Flows, Data Stores and Terminators included in the Functional
Viewpoint, plus a table showing the Functions that serve each User Need.
The
definitions of the acronyms and of other terms used in the Functional
Viewpoint are provided in the 'Acronym Definitions'
and 'General Definitions' pages. It is
particularly recommended that the latter be studied before the Browsing
Tool is used, as they provide the key to understanding the contents of the
Functional Viewpoint. More detailed information about the methodology
behind the Functional Viewpoint is provided in the Functional Viewpoint
Document (D3.1).

Navigation Tips
The
structure of the Functional Viewpoint can be represented as tree, and this
tree is shown in the navigation window on the left of the screen. It can be
used to select whichever High-Level Function or Low Level Function is
desired. Note that High-Level Functions have two pages associated with
them, the Data Flow Diagram and
its Definition .
A click on
the Org-Units Tree icon ( )
in the navigation window will select a tree of the Terminators and Actors
used in the Framework Architecture. Click on the Business Process Tree icon ( )
to revert back to the tree of functions.
The Data
Flow Diagrams are “intelligent”. Leaving the cursor over the top of an
element for a short time will bring up its description or overview. A click
on that element will take you to its full definition or diagram. Many of
the items in the Function, Data Flow and Data Store Definition pages are
also “intelligent”. A click on an item will take you to its full definition
or diagram.
When using the
Browsing Tool it can sometimes be difficult to know exactly how you arrived
at the Page that is currently being viewed. It should be possible to
retrace your steps back to previous pages using the normal browser Back and History commands.
