This Function shall be capable of providing the following facilities: (1) The ability to collect traffic data from the inter-urban road network. (2) The ability for sensors within this Function to provide the data as raw input and for the sensors to be capable of detecting the presence of all types of road vehicle, from bicycles to heavy freight vehicles. (3) The ability to process the raw input data provided by the sensors to provide actual traffic flow data, e.g. flow, speed, etc. (4) The ability to pass this processed data to other functionality for collation and use in traffic control.
