DFD 4.1 Monitor PT fleet

DFD 4.1 Monitor PT fleet

This is a DFD diagram which provides a description of the function in the ITS environment

Overview

This High-level Function shall provide continuous real time monitoring of the Public Transport vehicles progressing along their routes. Data shall be available by means of a direct data and voice link to vehicles and their drivers. Any available vehicle indicators (e.g. travel time, number of passengers, diagnostic, etc.) shall be regularly observed and estimated, before being made available to other functions.  Also special events detected by vehicles shall also be processed, e.g. emergencies, alarms, etc.  Archiving functionality shall also be included.  This Function shall provide the interface to vehicles for operators and other functions. Predicted data shall be made available to travellers through functional Area 6.  The Function shall consist of the following lower level Functions:

The Diagram(s) is(are) the Diagram(s) where you can find the function
  • The first diagram, if exists, is a DFD diagram which provides the context of the function
  • The second Diagram, if exists, is a Functional Tree which provides a hierarchical description of the function into subfunctions

    Component lower level functions

The Functions gather data about the use being made of the Public Transport vehicles and their state of operation. They also provide communications with the vehicles and with their drivers. The data provided by the vehicles is analysed and used to produce arrival and journey time predictions, and performance data. The arrival prediction data is sent to the Provide Traveller Assistance Area for use in trip planning and displayed to Travellers.

Between each of these Functions there are some Data Flows. A minority of these Data Flows enable the Functions to exchange data with each other. The remainder of the Data Flows enable the Functions to exchange data with other parts of the Manage Public Transport Operations Area, with other Areas and with the terminators. The Functions and Data Flows are contained in the DFD for Function 4.1 - DFD 4.1.
